Living Values

Living Values Education Programme (LVEP) is a comprehensive values education programme that provides resources for values–based education, including training and a wide variety of experiential, values–based activities and methodologies for educators, facilitators, parents, and caregivers. Education in values has been identified as a pivotal need in our society to help address the concerns and effects of violence, social problems, and crime. In South Africa the program is supported by the National Department of Education and has been implemented at various schools in all the provinces of South Africa and to date approximately 10 000 teachers have been trained in the living values methodology. The program is OBE friendly. The program is implemented in schools, childrens homes and street children agencies.

Values in Healthcare

Values in Healthcare is a modular professional development programme that helps healthcare professionals and teams to support themselves and their patients. Through experiential exercises and opportunities for reflection and self-enquiry, participants can identify their own core values and discover how their insights can enhance and revitalise their work. The programme introduces and encourages participants to explore values such as compassion, cooperation, peacefulness and self-care. The learning outcomes enable professionals in all settings to cope better with their work, raise morale and restore a sense of purpose, helping to prevent problems of burnout and sickness.

Women of Spirit

Women of Spirit acknowledges the spirit of women as one of conquest, endurance, generosity, sustenance, intuition and love. However in the frenetic pace of modern life these qualities can easily become strained and weakened, leaving women vulnerable and robbed of their personal power. The first step on the journey of reclaiming oneself is to re-discover self (who am I) and to explore what inspires self? To facilitate this exploration and to provide a forum for learning, regular meetings in the form of dialogues, workshops and retreats are offered. These meetings are specifically designed for women and help women create the time and space for their personal growth and well-being.

Spirituality and Men (SAM)

Spirituality and Men aims to promote the understanding that spirituality needs to play a central role in solving crises facing men and the world today. This forum takes place in the form of workshops and retreats allowing men, time for reflection of their personal experiences and a space to share peace, positivity and spiritual power. The activities are designed to provide practical spiritual approaches for coping with everyday challenges that men face.

Youth

Just as a young sapling knows that its task is to reach for the sky, in the same way young people need not settle for less. Offering young people an education for life that encourages spiritual principles and moral values, helps to build and strengthen the capacity of youth to participate as key actors now and in the future. At the heart of this dialogue, is the concept of spiritual growth as the basis of personal self-empowerment, and spiritual research into human consciousness and its effect on creating a peaceful atmosphere for social change. “When I change, the world changes.”

The activities are organised by youth for youth, and are specifically aimed at developing and nurturing spiritual values that empower young people to face social and developmental challenges.

Interfaith

In 1999 the Brahma Kumaris served on the Board of the Parliament of the World’s Religions when it was held in Cape Town, and have continued to contribute actively on both the National and Provincial Religious Leaders Forum. We believe in bringing people of different faiths and cultures together because a deeper understanding between faiths, based on acceptance and respect, will contribute to a culture of peace and non-violence in our country. In every major city, representatives have served and continue to participate on various interfaith committees, initiatives and projects. We continue to organise events to promote and encourage inter-religious celebrations, prayer and dialogue.
