How it started...

Brahma Kumaris started its activities in Brazil by an invitation of Ricardo Collier, who got acquainted with the Brahma Kumaris Organization during a trip to India. Professor Ken O’Donnell, an Australian citizen, arrived in São Paulo on May 22, 1979 and the activities started in a small garage of a law office in the garden district, near Rua Estados Unidos. They remained there until the month of September and then moved to an apartment close to Avenida Paulista.

On Easter, 1980, they moved to Higienópolis, to the Hatha Yoga school belonging to
Professor Luciana M.S.Ferraz, ho was part of the group since the beginning. With the proposal to buy the house and with Luciana’s decision to dedicate herself entirely to Raja Yoga spiritual life, the Hatha Yoga activities were terminated and, in the beginning of 1981, they moved to Rua Estevam de Almeida, in Perdizes, where they stayed during 15 years, from 1981 to 1996. During this time, they received the visit of all the three directors of the organization: Dadi Prakashmani, Dadi Janki and Dadi Gulzar and of the main senior teachers, among them: Brother Jagdish, Brother Brij Mohan, Brother Ramesh, Brother Nirvair, Sister Mohini, Didi Nirmala, Didi Sudesh, Sister Jayanti, Sister Asha, Sister Meera.

In 1986, there was the possibility of purchasing a house and once more the organization moved, this time permanently, to Rua Dona Germaine Burchard. Its ample and pleasant center was inaugurated by the BK Organization’s international leader, Dadi Prakashmani, in 1995 and received the name of Lighthouse
